Since the early years of the twentieth century, Teatro Vittoria has been the theatre of the Testaccio district. A two-story building overlooking a dirt square, with a brand-new majestic church counterbalancing it.

Testaccio used to be a border district. Right in front of the theatre, the first low-income housing units were built, thanks to an international tender for architectural design, and the units were mostly assigned to the cart drivers and workers of the nearby slaughterhouse. Rome’s city center was light-years away.

During its first few years, Teatro Vittoria used to host curtain-raisers, with Aldo Fabrizi, Anna Magnani and Totò. After being closed for some years, it was reborn as a drama theatre in the 1980s, hosting both debuting and well-known artists, music and theatre events, an acting school, a literary tea room, talent discovery events and much more.
